Director, Manufacturing


Position Summary

The Director of Manufacturing position plans, organizes and controls all aspects of the manufacturing, manufacturing services and repair function to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured or repaired on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.

Position Essential Functions:
  • Reviews and approves adequate plans for the control of planned outputs, budget spending, labor efficiency, material efficiency, engineering effectiveness, customer service, and order entry efficiency along with human utilization.
  • Work with senior management in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Present monthly reports on performance as requested by the President.
  • Achieves optimum associate levels with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
  • Formulates and recommends manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Directs and monitors department managers to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures. Acts as liaison between department management/subordinate levels, as well as executive/department manager levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance and results.
  • Direct and manage all aspects of the company’s manufacturing, polymer, and repair functions.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. Directs the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.
  • Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, cost reduction, worker involvement, etc.).
  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
  • Selects, maintains and trains qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and recommends compensation.
  • Maintains appropriate communication within areas of responsibilities.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments of the corporation in establishing and carrying out responsibilities
  • Reviews and approves the setting of budgets throughout the Manufacturing Departments.

Education and Experience:
  • BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or a 4–year technical degree in related discipline.
  • Affiliation with successful manufacturing companies.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing management, with responsibilities of producing, and production control.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.
