TEST REQUIREMENTS

What do I have to do to prepare for an upcoming test?

CECO will mobilize a self-powered, fully equipped, self-sufficient test trailer to any test location to perform required emissions testing. However, in order for CECO to conduct the emission testing, report the results in the appropriate value(s), and prepare the final test report as required by the regulatory agency(s), the client must provide the following 5 key pieces of information.
  1. Rated Brake Horsepower (BHP) - We can help you locate this if necessary.
  2. Actual Brake Horsepower (BHP)
    • This can be measured directly, or read from the engine panel. It can be calculated from load readings and rated BHP, if necessary.
    • In many cases, when load is not available on the panel, CECO can calculate BHP utilizing our vast library of software and custom spreadsheets. We can do this for almost all Caterpillars and Waukeshas in addition to many others.
    • CECO can also measure horsepower with an engine/compressor analyzer. If this is required, it must be discussed with CECO prior to mobilization.
  3. Fuel Flow in Standard Cubic Feet Hour (SCFH)
    • If a fuel meter is not available, other means of measuring /calculating fuel usage must be employed during the test (orifice calculation, fuel curve, etc). This must be discussed with CECO prior to mobilization.
    • Given notice we can prepare BSFC Fuel Curves for virtually any engine, if we don't already have one, to allow for fuel calculations if a meter is not available or is being used for multiple engines.
  4. Fuel Flow Meter Calibration Certificate
    • Fuel meter calibration must meet the requirements of EPA Method 2A, Section 6.1, and the calibration must be conducted using the same fuel type (e.g. natural gas) as that being measured by the fuel meter during the testing.
    • Not necessary if a Fuel Flow Meter is not used.
  5. Fuel Analysis from Date of Test
    • (Per 40 CFR 60 Appendix A Method 19 FAQ - The source must obtain from their supplier an ultimate and heat content analysis of the fuel combusted on test day. Method 19, Sections 12.3.2.3 and 12.3.2.4, describes the methods for these analyses. Alternatively, the source may collect fuel samples as specified in Method 19, Section 12.5.2.1 or 12.5.2.2 during the emission testing and submit these samples to a lab for analysis with the methodology listed above.)
    • In short, this means you must supply a fuel analysis from the day of testing, though in many circumstances this is impractical. If desired, CECO can take a gas sample during the test day and send it out for analysis after the test program concludes.
